The Rolling Ramblers

Team 05 - The Rolling Ramblers

Two engineers, one banger, 4000 miles, what could possibly go wrong…

CAR DETAILS:

Make:
Volvo
Model:
740 Estate
Purchase price:
£200
Max BHP:
116bhp
Max speed:
A subject of much debate on the Volvo Owners Club online forums, we intend to find out.
Special features:
It’s been very well cared for considering its age really, but there are a few niggles. The fuel, temp and speedo gauges don’t really work. If they are reading something, there’s a high probability it’s not the actual value. The sunroof leaks so badly the previous owners has sealed it shut. The engine, gearbox, CD player and doors all work, as does one of the heated seats, which is more than the last car had. Crucially, the MOT expires in May…

TEAM DETAILS:

Name:
David Balfour
Gareth Moore
Why have you signed up for the rally?
My life hasn’t had enough adventure in it to date. That said, it’s all too easy to forget what a relatively privileged childhood I have had, so undertaking this challenge for such a good cause will help those less fortunate and bring them some good fortune.
Lots of exciting places to visit while raising money for worthwhile charities.
What are you most looking forward to?
I’m an enormous fan of classic Volvos, so taking one that has nearly done a quarter of a million miles already round the most exciting parts of Europe will be a fantastic challenge. Bring on the breakdowns!
Driving through Scandinavia, I have always fancied going and what better way to do it than in a Volvo!
If you were a biscuit, which would you be?
A custard cream, perhaps that has been sitting in the biscuit tin for a few days more than it would ideally like, but is still good.
Fox’s Party Ring – a slightly unusual biscuit, but everyone still loves them!

Bloody picky MOT guys! Who need stearing anyway?!!!!

I just gave my 3 wheeler the once over, turns out i drove 260 miles back home last saturday through gales and the like with the dampeners off (the bolts had dropped out!). The bearings in the front wheel are also nakered (lots of play/wobble) but it still has a full MOT……..i think someone might have know the mechanic…..? :S

I’m sure one of the cars you had in Nottingham on Sunday (Under the big ferris wheel) was an old Nottingham taxi. Interested to see how far that one gets :-)

    Best of luck :-)
